FLORENCE, S.C. - For its final non-conference road match of the 2019 season, the USCB women's soccer team will travel to Francis Marion on Saturday, Sept. 21 to face off with the Patriots at 3:30 p.m. at Hartzler Field.
About USCB
USCB suffered its first loss of the year last weekend, as it fell to No. 17 Georgia Gwinnett, 3-1. The Sand Sharks then almost upset the No. 4 team in the nation - Martin Methodist - but fell to the Redhawks to bring USCB's 2019 record to 4-2.
Brooke Newman collected the lone goal for USCB against No. 4 Martin Methodist, as it was her third tally of the season. That mark is now tied for the second-most on the squad with Hannah Salus.
Anna Gignilliat continues to lead the Sand Shark offense, as she has netted seven goals this year (tied for 19th most in NAIA). She has 16 points on the year as well, which is tied for 22nd most in the NAIA this year.
Four other Sand Sharks have found the back of the net this year multiple times, while nine total players have found their name on the scoresheet for USCB.
Senior captain Logan Leask continues to man the net for the Sand Sharks, as she has started all six games. She has a strong 1.56 goals against average and has 10 saves to her name this year.
As a team, USCB ranks in the top 50 in the NAIA in several categories - assists per game (12th - 3.17), total assists (18th - 19), shots on goal (22nd - 11.17), goals per game (24th - 3.83), total goals (26th - 23), shutouts (27th - 3), shutouts per game (29th - 0.5) and shots per game (45th - 18.17).
Scouting Francis Marion
The Patriots are 2-1 on the year with wins over Lees-McRae and Coker. On their home turf, the Patriots are 1-1, as they suffered their only loss to Catawba at Hartzler Field.
Francis Marion has dominated opponents this year offensively, as they have outshot the opposition, 48-29. Of those 48 shots, 25 have been put on frame for a .521 shot on goal percentage. FMU is also a second-half team this year, as four of its five goals have been recorded in the final 45 minutes.
Offensively, FMU has had four players record a goal this year - Dayle McEwen, Sarah Moll, Faith Allen and Emma Hall. McEwen is the only Patriot who has netted multiple goals, as she scored against Coker and Catawba.
The Patriots have used two goalkeepers this year in Micahla Kitchen and Rachael Hennenkamp. Hennenkamp has appeared in two games and has a .833 save percentage. Kitchen has started one contest and has an unblemished 1.000 save percentage.
