HOW IT HAPPENED

The first half favored STU, as the Bobcats connected with a pair of goals in the opening session. The first goal was tallied in the ninth minute, as Andrea Manzur posted the header off a corner. Kayla Jackson also recorded a goal off a header, as her goal came off a cross at the back post.

USCB had a couple of chances to score in the first half, including off a Sydnee Metzold corner kick in the eighth minute. The midfielder ripped a left-footed cross to the back post, and without touching any player, it hit the back post and caromed out of harm's way.

At the halftime intermission, USCB saw itself down by a pair of goals. However, it didn't give in, as it recorded a pair of goals in the second half.

Just 10 minutes into the second session, Downey cut the deficit in half, as she recorded a goal. Matusik ripped a shot from close distance, and after deflecting off the STU keeper, Downey flicked the ball into the net to make the game 2-1.

Just five minutes later, Matusik knotted the game at two apiece, as she collected her third goal of 2020. The Sand Sharks were awarded a corner kick on the left side of the field. Stalnacke took the corner kick and put a cross towards the back post. Matusik found the ball and ripped a shot that was blocked. After corralling the rebound, Matusik again connected with a shot, and that attempt went by the keeper and rippled the back of the net to tie the game at 2-2.

USCB continued to maintain pressure in regulation, including a solid chance in the 78th minute when Marcela Shartouny hit the left post. The freshman curled a shot from the 18-yard line, but the attempt hit the post to keep the game tied, 2-2.

Despite the chances to pull ahead, the Sand Sharks and Bobcats went into overtime.

The first 10-minute, golden-goal session didn't have a lot of chances at goal for either team. Both teams combined for three shots with two being on frame.

Without a goal in the first overtime, the two clubs were forced to another overtime period.

STU connected with a pair of shots within the first four minutes of the session, but both attempts were blocked. Countering after the second blocked shot, Matusik worked to the left corner and fed a cross into the middle of the 18-yard box. Splitting two defenders, Kalvatn controlled the ball and struck the ball past the STU goalkeeper to lift USCB to its 3-2 quarterfinal win.
