About USCB

The Sand Sharks collected their fifth win of the season on Sunday, as they returned back to .500 overall in 2020. USCB also concluded its fall regular-season schedule with a stellar 4-1 record in games at Fin Land Field.

In USCB's quarterfinal matchup, the Sand Sharks came back from being two goals down at halftime to defeat St. Thomas, 3-2, in double overtime. Aurya Downey started the comeback for USCB with a goal in the 55th minute. Madeline Matusik knotted the game at 2-2 in the 60th minute, and in the 104th minute, Mari Kalvatn tallied the game-winning goal to advance USCB to the semifinals.

This will be USCB's third-ever appearance in the Sun Conference Semifinals. USCB's most recent appearance in a semifinal match was in 2018 where the Sand Sharks fell to Keiser, 3-0, in West Palm Beach, Fla.

With her four-point game against the Bobcats on Sunday, Matusik is now tied for the team lead with nine points (three goals, three assists). She is tied with Marcela Shartouny, as the rookie midfielder has a team-best four goals in 2020. Downey worked her way up the team leaderboard in points as well, as the freshman midfielder has seven points (two goals, three assists). With her game-winning goal, Kalvatn is now tied for second on the squad with three goals in 2020, as two of the three were scored against Southeastern in the previous head-to-head matchup.

Scouting Southeastern

SEU is undefeated in 2020, as it is 11-0 overall and 9-0 against league opponents. At SEU Soccer Field, the Fire is 6-0. In fact, SEU is on a 13-game home winning streak, which dates back to Sept. 21, 2019.

The Fire squad is well-rounded, as it has tallied 44 goals (four goals per game) and has allowed just five all year (0.45 goals allowed per game). Ironically, two of the five goals that SEU has allowed were scored by USCB's sophomore midfielder - Kalvatn.

Southeastern's offense is fueled by several key players - Naira Lopez, Aisha Solorzano and Anne-Clara Couturier. The three Fire teammates have combined for 26 goals and 12 assists. Lopez has eight goals and 11 assists to her name, while Couturier has seven goals and one assist. Solorzano hasn't seen the field since she exited the game due to an injury against USCB on Oct. 28.

Holly Eddins continues to be the backbone of the SEU defense, as the junior goalkeeper has started 10 of the 11 games in 2020. She totes a 0.47 goals against average and has collected 33 saves. She has five shutouts and also sports a 0.868 save percentage.
