BLUFFTON, S.C. - USCB men's track and field student-athletes Tewodros Eckstein and Carter Freeman were named to the CoSIDA (College of Sports Information Directors of America) Academic All-District team on Friday, May 29, 2020.
Out of the 10 student-athletes on the CoSIDA All-District 1 team, USCB landed two runners on the NAIA squad. Out of those 10, Eckstein was only one of two that had sophomore status, and Freeman was one of seven juniors on the District 1 team.
Freeman holds a 3.80 grade-point average, as he majors in biology at USCB. Eckstein also has a strong GPA (3.72), as he majors in business administration. Both Sand Sharks were named to the Sun Conference All-Academic team last week.
Eckstein was off to a strong sophomore campaign when he already qualified for the NAIA Track and Field Outdoor Championships in the half marathon. The Mt. Pleasant, S.C. native competed at the Palmetto Bluff Half Marathon and posted a 1:11:09.60 mark. Last year he set personal records in the 3k and 5k at 9:36.77 and 16:28.58, respectively. In cross country this year, Eckstein finished inside the top-10 at the Sun Conference Championships, as he claimed Second Team All-Sun Conference honors.
Freeman was able to participate in two track and field meets this year, and he competed in three different events - 60m hurdles, 400mH and pole vault. In last year's Sun Conference Track and Field Championships, the Columbia, S.C. native collected a pair of personal records in the 100mH and 400mH - 16.66 and 58.17, respectively. During his time at USCB, he has competed in six different track and field events - 200m, 400m, 100mH, 400mH, long jump and triple jump.
Eckstein and Freeman join Taylor Boykin, Kaitlyn O'Hearn and Maria Molloseau of USCB softball, Marc Sweeney of USCB men's golf and Deliah Prescha of USCB women's golf as Sand Shark student-athletes that have been named CoSIDA Academic All-District this year.
