DAYTONA BEACH, FLORIDA – The University of South Carolina Beaufort men's track & field team closed out the Peach Belt Conference Championship meet on Saturday evening, finishing sixth with 78 points. USCB was highlighted by four conference champions and five total podium finishes.
The Sand Sharks earned victories from Jakori Herring, Samuel Mitchell (twice), and Aiden O'Neil.
Jason Jose and Devin Watson each scored in the shot put, as Jose led the way with a sixth-place finish and a mark of 13.37m. Watson placed eighth overall with a mark of 12.30m.
Samuel Mitchell captured his second event title of the meet in the triple jump with a mark of 14.92m. He was one of two Sand Sharks to score in the event, as Cameron Edwards placed fourth with a mark of 14.59m.
In the discus, Devin Watson placed seventh overall with a mark of 40.93m, earning points for the team.
The 4x100m relay team finished fifth overall with a time of 41.97.
Malachi Milligan earned a podium finish, placing third in the 110m hurdles with a time of 14.98. He was joined by Alie Sannoh, who scored with an eighth-place finish in 15.33.
In the 100m, Samuel Mitchell and Bryson Shears both finished in the top eight to score points for the Sand Sharks. Mitchell placed fifth, while Shears finished eighth.
Jakori Herring won the 400m hurdles, claiming the conference title with a time of 53.79.
Zachery Vowles led the way in the 800m with a 12th-place finish, clocking a time of 1:54.61.
In the end-of-year awards, Samuel Mitchell earned both the All-Sportsmanship Team honor and the Outstanding Field Athlete award following his two event victories.
