USCB Travels to No. 4 Southeastern for First Road Contest of 2020

LAKELAND, Fla. - Following a dominating three-goal, season-opening win over Webber International, USCB women's soccer hits the road for the first time in 2020, as it heads to Southeastern for a conference bout on Saturday, Sept. 26. Kickoff is set for 5 p.m. in Lakeland.

About USCB/Last Time Out

The Sand Sharks opened the shortened 2020 season campaign in dominating fashion, as they handed Sun Conference rival Webber International a 4-1 defeat on Monday, Sept. 21. 

Four Sand Sharks tallied a goal in the home opener, all of which came in the first half. Madeline Matusik, Marcela Shartouny, Lexi Kaeser and Allison Schaffer all posted goals for USCB. Sydnee Metzold, Madison Foshee and Shartouny also recorded assists in the season opener. 

USCB dominated possession for most of the contest, as it outshot the Warriors, 21-8. It even put more shots on goals than WIU at 12-4. 

Shartouny and Metzold combined for 11 of the team's 21 shots, including seven of the 12 shots on goal. Kaeser contributed three shots with a pair on frame.

Scouting No. 4 Southeastern

Nationally-ranked Southeastern hosts USCB with a 2-0 record, as it has recorded wins over Faulkner and Warner. The Fire has outscored their two opponents by eight goals this year, 8-0. 

Reigning Sun Conference Attacking Player of the Week, Naira Lopez, leads SEU in goals scored with five. In fact, she matched a single-game school record with all five goal coming against Warner on Sept. 19. She has totaled 16 shots this year with 10 being on frame. Three other teammates - Victoria Moran, Jennifer Luna and Summer Rusher - have one goal each this season.

SEU has used a pair of goalkeepers this year with Holly Eddins totaling the most minutes at 135. Eddins has faced just six shots this year and has five saves. Micaela Owen was the other Fire member, as she started one contest and played just one half versus Faulkner.

What's Next?

USCB will return to the friendly confines of Fin Land Field on Wednesday, Sept. 30, as it hosts Warner. The two clubs kick off at 11 a.m., and the contest will be streamed on the Sand Shark Gameday Network.
