HOW IT HAPPENED
Straight from the opening touch, the Sand Sharks dominated possession, as they ripped five shots (four on goal) in the first 14 minutes. Also during that span, USCB posted a pair of corners, which nearly led to scoring chances.
Following an 11-minute span of back-and-forth action, the Sand Sharks were finally able to find the net when Bye-Andersen tallied the goal. Downey fed a pass to the rookie forward, and after taking a touch, Bye-Andersen ripped a shot on goal and gave USCB the one-goal advantage.
Following a WIU yellow card, the two clubs played level for the next eight minutes. On a corner kick, Downey executed a perfectly-placed pass into the WIU box. Kalvatn found the ball in the air and doubled USCB's lead over WIU, 2-0.
With just four minutes left in the first half, the Sand Sharks committed a foul inside their own penalty box. WIU sent out Brazil Clark to take the penalty kick, and she put the ball away to make the contest 2-1.
After a 15-minute halftime break, the second half was a chippy battle between the Sand Sharks and Warriors. The 45-minute session featured six yellow cards (three per team) along with 16 combined fouls.
Despite the aggressive play, USCB connected with six shots in the second half, while limiting WIU to just one shot on goal.
Behind the stout defensive play in the second half, the Sand Sharks staved off the Warrior attack to defeat WIU by one goal - its first loss of the season.
