LAKE WALES, Fla. - Following just one day of rest, the USCB women's soccer team struggled to find offense on Saturday morning, as USCB and Warner played to a scoreless tie at Royals Field. The 0-0 result was USCB's first-ever scoreless tie in program history.
Inside The Box Score
Mari Kalvatn - two shots, one shot on goal
Aurya Downey - one shot, one shot on goal
Four Sand Sharks with one shot
Mariah Ruckdeschel - 110 minutes, no goals allowed (3.5 shutouts this year), seven saves
How It Happened
Following opening kick, the Sand Shark offense didn't have numerous chances to score. The two biggest opportunities came in the fifth and 18th minutes. Kalvatn took the shot on goal in the fifth, while Kristin Beltestad connected with the header in the 18th. Beltestad went in the air and redirected a corner from Kalvatn. However, the shot went above the crossbar.Â
USCB's defense, like most games this year, was stout, as it faced just five shots and limited the Royals to minimal scoring opportunities in the first half.
After halftime, the Sand Sharks had a trio of scoring chances just a few minutes into the second half. Synne Bye-Andersen took three corner kicks from the 48th to 55th minute. One opportunity arose in the 53rd frame when Bye-Andersen connected with a shot that went right of the net.Â
After missing two scoring chances, USCB's final chance to ripple the net in regulation came in the 88th minute. Unfortunately, Downey's shot on goal was saved.Â
The two, 10-minute overtime sessions were a struggle for both clubs offensively. The only shot on goal came in the 108th minute when Warner put a shot on goal, but Ruckdeschel made the save to keep the contest level after 110 minutes of play.
