Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Baldo’s Brace, USCB’s Three-Goal Second Half Not Enough on Senior Day

BLUFFTON, S.C. - Despite tallying three goals in the second half, the USCB women's soccer team dropped a heartbreaker on Saturday afternoon at home to RV SCAD, 4-2, at Fin Land Field.

Inside The Box Score

Gabriella Baldo - two goals, one assist, two shots, two shots on goal

Mari Kalvatn - one goal, five shots, two shots on goal

Aurya Downey and Synne Bye-Andersen - two shots each, both on goal

Mariah Ruckdeschel - 90 minutes, four saves

How It Happened

SCAD attacked the Sand Shark defense quickly, as the Bees netted a goal just two minutes into the match.

The Sand Sharks had big opportunities to score in the 13th and 15th minutes. Four Sand Sharks had chances to net the game-tying goal but missed their attempts at goal.

USCB continued to pepper the Bee net for the next couple of minutes, but again couldn't ripple the twine.

SCAD started to find some momentum and doubled its lead in the 28th minute, 2-0.

With just 28 seconds left, Bye-Andersen nearly cut into the deficit, but the shot on goal was saved.

The Bees took the three-goal lead just six minutes into the second half, as Ines Sommer tallied the goal.

USCB didn't cave though, as it answered 26 seconds later to make it a 3-1 game. Baldo tallied the goal for the Sand Sharks.

Then just under six minutes left, Kalvatn might have scored USCB's goal of the year to make it just a one-goal game, 3-2. Kalvatn corralled a pass from Baldo. After juggling the ball over several Bee defenders, she eventually lofted a shot into the back of the net, which was her 17th goal of the year.

With 28 minutes left in regulation, USCB knotted the game at 3-all when Baldo again found the back of the net again. The junior midfielder ripped a shot from distance. The shot deflected off a player, but despite the deflection, the ball went over the goalkeeper's head and tied the game.

With just over 10 minutes left in regulation, SCAD put the game out of hand, 4-3, with a goal from Sydney Chura.

The Bees held on to possession for nearly the remainder of the match to see out the one-goal win.
