BLUFFTON, S.C. - Behind a 3-0 victory over St. Andrews, the USCB soccer team broke two more school records on Sunday, March 28, as it set new records for wins in a season (11) and shutouts in a season (7).

The Sand Sharks have now broken three major school records this season - goals scored (currently 58), wins and shutouts.

How It Happened

The Sand Sharks and Knights were tight for the first nine minutes, but the Sand Shark offense was unstoppable after that point. USCB rattled off five shots in the next seven minutes, including the first goal of the match that came in the 15th minute. Matusik scored the game-opening goal for USCB, and two Sand Sharks earned the assist.

USCB had numerous chances to double its lead in the first half, as Kalvatn, Kaeser, Matusik and Brodersen combined for seven more shots. Kalvatn had a solid chance in the 23rd minute, but the attempt went just high of the crossbar.

Another solid chance came in the 44th minute when Matusik ripped a shot from distance. Her right-footed ball hit the crossbar and rolled out of harm's way.

Up 1-0 at the half, USCB also saw an 11-shot advantage in the first 45-minute session.

Matusik again nearly rippled the net in the 49th minute when she found the crossbar again.

Kalvatn, Kaylee Kumar and Foshee also had solid chances in the early portion of the second half, but all attempts sailed wide of the net.

USCB was able to capitalize on the scoring chances in the 58th minute when Kalvatn doubled the lead, 2-0.

Seven shot attempts later, the Sand Sharks capped off the contest with their third goal of the game, which came in the 79th minute. Brodersen tallied the goal, and Downey earned the assist.

The Sand Sharks had a couple more chances to add goals in the final 11 minutes, but USCB settled for the 3-0 victory, which sealed the Sand Sharks' 11th victory of the year (most in school history). The shutout also marked the seventh of the season, which is the most in a single season.
