Baseball Suffers Setback in Series Opener at RV Webber International

BABSON PARK, Fla. - To open the final Sun Conference series of 2021, the USCB baseball team suffered a setback, 18-8, to RV Webber International on Friday night at Heart of Florida Field.

Nick Milhan - 2-for-4, two singles, one RBI, one run

Leandy Castro - 2-for-4, double, one RBI, one run

Alexander Humphrey - 1-for-4, solo home run, two runs

Clint Sellers - 1-for-4, solo homer

Tavaris Terrell and Kyran Russ - one hit each

HOW IT HAPPENED

After Castro's single in the first, WIU's offense sparked nine runs in the first frame to take the 9-0 lead.

USCB was able to get on the board in the second when Humphrey cracked a leadoff single.

However, the Warriors added on four straight runs from the second to fourth innings to take the 13-1 lead. 

USCB tallied two runs in the fifth when Sellers and Meyer went back-to-back with solo blasts.

Again, WIU had an answer, as it plated two runs of its own in the home half of the fifth.

The Sand Sharks were able to rattle off five unanswered runs in the sixth and seventh inning to make the game 15-8. Milhan, Terrell and Castro were the three Sand Sharks to collect RBI hits in the two-hit span.

Unfortunately, Webber International plated three runs to put the contest out of reach, 18-8, in the bottom of the seventh.

USCB and WIU will conclude its three-game conference series with a doubleheader on April 24. First pitch of the two, nine-inning games are set to begin at noon at Heart of Florida Field.
