How It Happened

USCB started the match with a tall task, as it was playing its second game with less than 24 hours of rest, and Erskine was commencing its season versus the Sand Sharks rested and prepared.

The two clubs started to feel each other out in the first 25 minutes. USCB scored two goals in the first 10 minutes, but due to an offsides call and a handball, the two goals were waived off.

USCB eventually broke the scoreless tie in the 26th minute when Kalvatn netted the go-ahead goal. The goal made the contest 1-0.

Both teams only had one shot in the next 19-minute span, but the Flying Fleet knotted the game at 1-1 with just five seconds left in the first half. Brittiney Gardner scored the goal for the home team in a dying effort from lonh distance.

Overall in the first half, the Sand Sharks dominated possession and held one-way traffic on the opponent's side of the field. At the 15-minute intermission, the Sand Sharks had a three-shot advantage on Erskine, 5-2.

After 12 minutes of back-and-forth action to start the second half, Kalvatn scored the eventual game-winning goal in the 57th minute. The tally was the fourth of the 2021 season and 22nd of her career. She also brought her season total up to 10 points, which leads the Sand Shark squad. The junior midfielder is now one goal scored back to move in a tie for second all-time in career goals at USCB (Anna Gignilliat, 23 career goals).

USCB's defense continued to stay strong for the remainder of the contest, as it saw out its second straight win in a 24-hour span.
