HOW IT HAPPENED
After leaving three runners on base in the first two innings, Brewton-Parker took advantage with the game's first run in the bottom of the second. BPC utilized three walks and an error to take the early 1-0 lead.
After a pair of hits in the third, USCB finally broke onto the scoreboard in the fourth with a trio of runs. Tanner started the rally with a walk, and a batter later, Harper knocked a single to center. Meyer made it hurt with a two-RBI triple. After a pitching change, Meyer scored on the next batter thanks to a wild pitch to give USCB the two-run lead, 3-1.
The Barons made it a one-run game after the fourth inning, but USCB's offense erupted for five runs in the fifth. The frame started off with three straight hits from Sellars, Humphrey and Milhan. Tanner joined in with a run-scoring base hit, and to end the five-run frame, Meyer plated a pair of runs after putting the ball in play. After the inning, the Sand Sharks held a commanding 8-2 lead.
After a scoreless sixth and a Sand Shark run in the top of the seventh, a rarity occurred in the bottom of the seventh - a triple play. With Mathis on the mound, the first two Barons reached base via a hit. The third batter of the inning cracked a line out to the Sand Shark second baseman (Brock Thibodeaux). After corralling the first out, he stepped on the second base bag for the second out and threw a dart to first base to turn the triple play.
USCB added on three more runs to make it a 12-2 game after seven-and-a-half innings, but the Barons tacked on four runs of their own to make it a six-run contest, 12-6.
The Sand Sharks tried to add insurance in the ninth, but left a pair on base. Wood came on in relief for his first appearance of 2022, and he allowed just one Baron to reach, while striking out two to seal the win - 12-6.
