HOW GAME ONE HAPPENED
After early struggles on the mound, Blume was phenomenal from the second inning - on. The junior college transfer only allowed one hit after the first inning - which was a leadoff single in the fourth.
USCB's offense backed Blume's dominance on the bump with six runs in the seven-inning affair. The first run was scored off Castro's solo blast in the first inning.
The Sand Shark offense was kept off the board in the second and third innings, but in the fourth, USCB erupted for four hits. Russ started the surge with a solo home run, and after two hits, Meyer cracked a two RBI double to push the lead to four, 4-0. To cap off the scoring, Sellars scored Meyer off a sacrifice fly.
USCB was able to tack on an insurance run in the sixth when Castro poked a RBI single to left.
Blume slammed the door in the seventh with a 1-2-3 frame to lift USCB to its second straight win.Â
HOW GAME TWO HAPPENED
USCB and Brewton-Parker were able to make it through an inning-and-a-half before rain struck and forced the two clubs to suspend the contest in the bottom of the second. The final five-and-a-half innings will be made up on Feb. 22 when Brewton-Parker returns to Hardeeville. The two clubs will then play the regularly-scheduled, nine-inning contest following the conclusion of the suspended game.Â
Brewton-Parker was up 2-0 in the bottom of the second. The Barons plated a run on an error in the first and doubled that lead on another USCB error.
The USCB offense found momentum in the bottom of the second before play was suspended. Nick Milhan started the inning with a double, and he moved to third on a ground out. Russ walked and then stole second to put two runners in scoring position with one out. With Jake Tanner up to bat in a 0-2 count, play was suspended.Â
