HARDEEVILLE, S.C. - In a mid-week tilt versus a nationally-ranked team, the USCB baseball team fell to No. 12 Middle Georgia State, 8-1, on Tuesday afternoon at Richard Gray Stadium.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Middle Georgia State opened the scoring in the first inning with a pair of runs. Ryan Wilson and Brian Herrera earned run-scoring at-bats for the Knights to take the early advantage.Â
USCB retaliated in the bottom of the first to cut the deficit in half. Galassi led off the frame with a double down the left field line. After moving to third on a ground out, Robbie Brown recorded a sac fly to make it a 2-1 contest.Â
MGA added to its lead in the second and fourth innings, which pushed the team's lead to six, 7-1. The Knights scored two in the second and three in the fourth to take the six-run lead.Â
The Knight lineup couldn't be stopped until it skidded after taking the six-run lead in the fourth. To stop the bleeding, Newton twirled 2.2 innings without allowing a hit or run during that two-and-two-thirds of work. He also struck out two in his collegiate debut.Â
The number 12 team in the country tacked on a lone run in the seventh to make the contest 8-1.
Williams settled in nicely on the bump for USCB. In the eighth and ninth innings, he allowed just one hit, which was a two-out knock in the ninth. However, he kept MGA off the scoreboard to keep it an 8-1 contest.Â
Coming in to pinch hit in the ninth, Holt tried to spark a rally with a leadoff single. However, USCB's offense sputtered to fall 8-1.Â
