HARDEEVILLE, S.C. - After combining for 23 runs in the doubleheader sweep on Friday, the USCB baseball team was halted in the series finale, as the Sand Sharks fell to No. 24 Keiser, 5-0, on Saturday afternoon at Richard Gray Stadium.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
Robbie Brown - 2-for-4, two singles
Alexander Humphrey and Wesley Ambrose - one single each
Scott Matthews - five innings, eight hits, one earned run, six strikeouts
Cam Mathis - three innings, no runs, no hits, one walk, two strikeouts
Brian Bromley - one inning, no runs, no hits, one walk
HOW IT HAPPENED
The first three innings flew by for both teams. The top of the third saw the most action, where the Seahawks left the bases loaded. However, USCB's starting pitcher - Matthews - worked out the bases-loaded jam.
The Seahawks broke through in the fourth inning by plating two runs - one off a single and one off a fielding error. Keiser added a lone run in the top of the fifth and two in the sixth to take the 5-0 lead.Â
The Sand Sharks had a big chance to get on the board in the bottom of the sixth. Ambrose and Brown posted back-to-back leadoff singles. Ambrose was able to advance to third on a fly out, but after a strikeout, a groundout left both Sand Sharks stranded.
In the last three innings, USCB's offense was tamed by the Keiser starting pitcher - Garrett Reisz - as he didn't allow a hit, run or walk in the final three innings. His dominating performance allowed Keiser to salvage a win in the three-game series.
