Sand Sharks battle Lander to 1-1 draw

 GREENWOOD -- Synne Bye-Andersen netted her third goal of the year giving USCB a 1-0 lead with 20 minutes to play and Lander scored the equalizer with eight minutes remaining on the clock ending the game in a 1-1 tie at Van Taylor Stadium Saturday afternoon.
 
Bye-Andersen broke through on a breakaway on a ball cleared up and she chipped over the keeper's head to put USCB up 1-0. 
 
"A great point away from home against a very good team," coach Jay Harris said. "The game was a tactical battle and with it being our second away trip of the week, it is a testament to our team's skill and resilience."
 
The Sand Sharks had a beautiful opportunity in the first three minutes after Savanna Page beat the Bearcat defense and had a 1-v-1 chance with the keeper, but her shot wide right. 
 
Lander outshot USCB 11-3 in the first half but most of the Bearcats' shots were blocked by Beaufort's defense. After USCB's goal, the Bearcats pressed for the remainder of the match. In the 82nd minute Sille Hansen scored to tie the game at one. 
 
"We have a quick turnaround but look forward to being back at home for our next game Monday."
 
USCB hosts Brewton-Parker for a non-conference contest on Monday before wrapping up league play on Saturday against Georgia Southwestern.
