TALLADEGA — Three first half goals from Kristin Beltestad, Mari Kalvatn, and Savanna Page propelled USCB back into the win column Thursday afternoon as the Sand Sharks knocked off Talladega 3-0.
"A good win on the road against a well organized, physical team," coach Jay Harris said. "It took us a a bit to get going but once we did we executed in the moments that mattered and controlled the remainder of the game. The clean sheet was well deserved."
Beaufort created two opportunities within the first minute as Synne Bye-Andersen and Anna Wandrie took shots on goal. After the consecutive fouls against the Tornado USCB, picked up the pace. Brianna Raffa drilled the crossbar from 32 yards out, but it was Kalvatn that put the Sand Sharks on the board first.
Page sent a cross over to Bye-Andersen who then passed a through-ball to Kalvatn and the all-time leading goal scorer found the back of the net for her team-leading eighth goal of the year.
Nine minutes later, Bye-Andersen sent a centering ball to Page and the Houston native scored from 22 yards out, making it 2-0.
It was all Sand Sharks for the rest of the period, after keeping the pressure on Dega's defense, the Norwegian connection of Beltestad and Kalvatn put Beaufort up 3-0. Kalvatn brought a ball down the wing, centered it and Beltestad finished it off for her first goal of the season.
"We now focus on our game Saturday against North Georgia. We relish the challenge to compete against one of the best teams in the country."
