HARDEEVILLE, S.C. - To open a three-game series at Richard Gray Stadium, the USCB softball team put a scare into Augusta in the game one loss, 8-5, while the Sand Sharks used a three-run second inning in game two to claw out a win, 4-2, in the doubleheader on Friday.

Ashlyn Alte - 2-for-3, two singles
Mackenzie Freeman - 1-for-4, homer
Emily Williams - seven innings, six earned runs, one strikeout
HOW GAME ONE HAPPENED
The first three-and-a-half innings favored the Jaguars, as they scored three runs in both the second and third innings while adding in two more in the fourth.
Down 8-0, USCB made it a seven-run contest in the bottom of the fourth with a solo blast from Freeman.
After a quick fifth inning, USCB's offense started to chip away at the deficit. The Sand Sharks pushed across two runs in the sixth, via Reynolds' two-run homer. Then in the seventh, USCB made it interesting when Daryn Miller and Reynolds added in run-scoring at-bats. With the tying run on deck, the final out was recorded in the three-run loss.
INSIDE THE GAME TWO BOX SCORE
Harlee Walker - 2-for-3, double, one RBI
Freeman - 2-for-3, two singles, one RBI, one run
Amber Locasto - 1-for-3, double, two RBIs, one run
Cierra Kinlaw - seven innings, seven hits, two runs, one walk, five strikeouts
HOW GAME TWO HAPPENED
After a fast first inning, USCB's offense came unhinged in the second with a trio of runs. Freeman started the inning with a single, and after an out, Chloe Turner poked a single up the middle. To make it hurt, Locasto smacked a double to right center to make the game 2-0. Walker promptly followed with a double to left center to advance the lead to three, 3-0.
Moving to the fifth inning, the Sand Sharks added an insurance run with a two-out hit from Freeman. She singled through the left side to score Miller and make it a 4-0 contest.
Augusta chipped away with a single run in the sixth and one in the seventh, but that was as close as the Jags would get, as the Sand Sharks claimed the 4-2 win.
