DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - After advancing to the finals, Steven Nesbitt took home a silver medal in the men's 100m finals, as he posted a quick time of 10.74 on Friday to headline the finishes for USCB track and field at the Peach Belt Conference Championships.
Field Highlights
Allayah Bryan, Sophia Stalford and Algeria Scott all represented USCB in the women's shot put. Bryan led the trio in 10th place with a heave of 9.73m.
Jordan Rivers and Ramon White competed in the men's triple jump. Rivers placed eighth, while White finished in ninth.
Track Highlights
In the 25-person field, Jacob Mitchell ran in the men's 5k, and he had a respectable finish in 18th place. He clocked a time of 15:46.82 and was just over eight seconds from moving in the top-15.
Consisting of Nesbitt, White, Rivers and Michael Johnson, USCB finished in fourth place in the men's 4x100m. The foursome posted a mark of 43.90.
The women's 4x100m had some success. The four Sand Sharks in the relay consisted of Maisonne Jones, Aniah Wright, Scott and De'Andra Brown. The four Sand Sharks combined for a time of 51.22 and slotted in fourth place out of seven relay teams. USCB was just 0.11 seconds from walking away with a medal.
LeeAisha Ford and Brown competed in the women's 100m hurdles, and Ford came away with a bronze medal in the sprint. The rookie posted a strong mark of 15.84, while Brown clocked a 17.19 time to slot in sixth.
Nesbitt had one of the biggest headlines for USCB in the men's 100m finals. The Sand Shark earned a quick mark of 10.74, which was 0.22 seconds away from Jailen Dalton of Columbus State. This marked the first silver medal for USCB at the Peach Belt Conference Championships.
On the women's side of the 100m finals, Jones finished in fifth place with a mark of 12.557. She fell out of fourth place by a mere 0.004 seconds.
After qualifying for the 400mH finals, Ford and Wright raced on Friday. Ford finished in seventh with a 1:16.23, and Wright earned a mark of 1:17.14.
What's Next?
For those that have hit qualifying standards, those Sand Sharks will travel to the NAIA Outdoor Track and Field Nationals from May 24-26 in Marion, Ind.
