Game Recap: Women's Soccer | | Brackin Lambert

USCB falls for first time in 2023 in road contest with GCSU

MILLEDGEVILLE -- USCB allowed its first second half goal of the season and the late rally wasn't enough as the Sand Sharks fell for the first time this season to Georgia College and State University, 2-1 at Bobcat Field Wednesday evening.

Kennedy Harris netted her third goal of the year with just three minutes remaining in the first half, but a header off a set piece gave the Bobcats the lead. GCSU kept Beaufort offense away from the net only allowing three shots in the second half.

With her first shot of the game, fifth year Mari Kalvatn broke another USCB record, surpassing 2017 graduate, Hayley Pina's shot record of 218. The Stavanger, Norway native now has 220 career shots and holds the all-time record in every offensive category.

Georgia College jumped out to an early lead capitalizing on a USCB defensive miscue. The Bobcats forced a turnover just outside the 18-yard box and Amanda Dewey went 1-v-1 vs Emily Worrell and found the back of the net.

USCB picked up the offensive attack, controlling the final 25 minutes after being down 1-0. It took until the 41st minute for Beaufort to break the scoreboard as Bye-Andersen sent a through-ball into the box and Kristin Beltestad passed it along to Harris who tied the match at one.

The second period remained scoreless until the Bobcats scored the go-ahead goal in the 73rd minute off a set piece. Morgan Amrozowicz sent a ball into the box and found Sydney Charles, who headed it in just past Worrell.

USCB is off this weekend but return to the pitch on Tuesday at home against Erskine. Kickoff is scheduled for 2 p.m.
