Game Recap: Women's Soccer | | Brackin Lambert

Kalvatn inches closer to 50, USCB shutouts Erskine in rain-soaked victory

HARDEEVILLE -- After Mother Nature made an appearance for the second straight year against the Flying Fleet and Fin Land Field was deemed unplayable due to the weather, USCB and Erskine moved its contest to Hardeeville to ensure the game would be played.

It didn't long for Beaufort to put last week's loss to Georgia College in the rear view mirror as USCB had four different players score goals in a 5-0 victory over Erskine in Hardeeville Tuesday afternoon.

Mari Kalvatn moved closer to 50 career goals, scoring two goals - one in each half - Adriane Skelton netted her first collegiate goal, Savanna Page pushed across her second of the season, and Synne Bye-Andersen found the back of the net, as well as collecting three assists to cap the offensive onslaught.

"It was a good performance," said head coach Jay Harris. "Conditions made it difficult for both teams, but we were able to control the game and get the win."

From the opening kick, Beaufort had control.

Kalvatn scored the first goal just five minutes into the game after Bye-Andersen sent a cross into the box, finding her fellow countrywoman's right foot and the all-time leader in goals placed it past Erskine's keeper to put USCB up 1-0. 10 minutes later Skelton moved into the box for a corner kick and drilled home her first collegiate goal with a header coming from Bye-Andersen.

The Trondheim, Norway native got in on the action as the first half was winding down as she carried the ball from midfield and blasted a shot in the right upper 90 of the goal, moving USCB up 3-0 heading into halftime.

As it was in period one, the Sand Sharks controlled all by a few moments of the second half, outshooting the Fleet 11-2.

Kalvatn, the Stavanger, Norway native opened the scoring again in the second half scoring her 49th career goal on an open net after receiving a pass from Page. The sophomore forward scored her second goal of the year, receiving a pass from Bye-Andersen and then placing a beautiful bicycle kick out of the reach of Braeden Johnson to make it 5-0.

"The team has tomorrow off, but we will be back on the field Thursday preparing for our next conference game Saturday against Albany State."
