Premo's 18, USCB's late run not enough against Saints

ST. AUGUSTINE -- Mahkayla Premo scored 18 points for the second and two others posted double-digits efforts, but the Sand Sharks were outscored 36-25 in the second half to fall 70-59 to Flagler Saturday afternoon.
 
Taniyah Bowman added 14 and Janiyah Heyward scored 12 for USCB.
 
Flagler shot 60 percent from the field in the first quarter giving the Saints an eight-point lead after the first 10 minutes but a strong second frame from USCB trimmed the lead to only one with under three to play until half time. Heyward's jumper netted the game at 32 apiece. Rose knocked down two from the charity stripe, but FC came right back to tie it at 34 before heading into half.
 
It remained scoreless through the first three minutes of the second half before the Saint's rattled off a quick 5-0 run. Bowman's drive to the bucket made it three-point game but another triple from FC increased the lead to six and then went on another run, keeping USCB off the board, jumping out to a 13-point lead forcing a Beaufort timeout.
 
The fourth quarter saw Beaufort make strides in making the comeback, but the Sand Sharks couldn't overcome the deficit, moving to 1-7 in PBC play. USCB returns to the Cove on Wednesday hosting Columbus State for 5:30 p.m. tipoff.
