Sand Sharks hold on for road win over Rams

ALBANY -- Synne Bye-Andersen and Bella Esteves each scored a goal, and the Rams deflected the game-winner into the back of the net giving USCB a 3-2 conference win over Albany State Wednesday afternoon.

The match remained scoreless through the first 36 minutes, but it was Bye-Andersen that struck first and put USCB up 1-0 as the half ended. Beaufort took eight shots over 20 minutes to open the second half, but the Rams knotted the game at one in the 68th minute.

Esteves scored her first goal of the season in the 82nd minute and then USCB went up 3-1 after the Ram's defensive line deflected a ball in past their own keeper. ASU would score another goal in the 89th minute but the Sand Sharks held on for the 3-2 victory.

With the win, USCB stands at 6-2-2 overall and 3-1 in PBC play. The Sand Sharks welcome Georgia College to Fin Land Field on Saturday with a 2 p.m. scheduled kickoff.
