BLUFFTON -- Two second half goals from USCB tied the game 2-2 but a late penalty kick goal put Lander up 3-2 to defeat the Sand Sharks Wednesday afternoon at Fin Land Field.
USCB controlled much of the first 10 minutes of the game, but the Bearcats netted the first goal of the game in the 18th minute and scored a second just six minutes later, taking a 2-0 in the half.
Jenny Hesby put Beaufort on the board scoring after a Bearcat defender deflected a ball right to the junior midfielder. The Sandefjord, Norway loaded up and took the shot from the top of the 18-yard box that rattled off the right post and found the back of the net to make it a one goal game.
The Sand Sharks offense continued to pressure Lander over the next 20 minutes, but it was Jasiah Pack who netted the equalizer in the 80th minute as she scored her second goal of the year with a header from Kristin Beltestad.
As the clock continued to wind down, USCB picked up the pressure taking two more shots on goal over the next eight minutes, but a handball was called on the Sand Sharks inside the box, awarding Lander with a PK in the final minutes. Maren White found the back of the net and the Bearcats escaped Fin Land with a 3-2 victory.
The third game of its four-game homestand is set for Saturday as the Class of 2025 will be honored in pregame ceremony prior to the scheduled 2 p.m. kickoff with Albany State.
