Bye-Andersen’s last-minute header secures USCB win

AIKEN -- Rivalry games are never easy, especially on the road, but for the second consecutive year USCB took down its in-state rival in the final minutes, taking down the Pacers 1-0 Saturday afternoon at Pacer Pit, ending its two-game losing streak.

"A hard-fought and much needed victory after a rough start to our week," interim head coach Dan Huff said. "But we showed a great deal of resilience this afternoon and to be able to come out with three points on the road is huge. Now we shift our focus to Albany State."

USCB had been held scoreless for 347 minutes dating back to the game against Georgia Southwestern, but that changed after Synne Bye-Andersen headed home the game-winner in the 88th minute. The Sand Sharks created multiple chances in the 84th minute, earning three corner kicks in 16 seconds. Lauren Carmichael took a shot that was saved but a slew of Sand Sharks were there to follow up the save and Bye-Andersen headed the ball in for the go-ahead goal.

With the win, USCB evened the all-time series with its rival 2-2 and ran its winning streak to two over the Pacers.

Beaufort will travel to Albany State on Wednesday to continue Peach Belt play. Kickoff is scheduled for 2 p.m.
