Polce’s buzzer beater, Ralat’s 29 points propel Sand Sharks to season opening OT win

ST. AUGUSTINE -- USCB men's basketball opened its 2024-25 season in thrilling fashion as senior Kyle Polce hit a game-tying buzzer beater in the second half and 5th year Alejandro Ralat posted a team-high 29 points and the Sand Sharks erased a 21-point second half deficit to defeated Francis Marion 104-101 in the opening game of the Southeast Regional Crossover Friday night.

Polce finished the night with 22 points, five boards, and two steals while Kevaughn Price and Dominic Eason scored in double figures.

Beaufort used a 13-3 run with under three minutes to play in regulation to trim the Patriots lead to just one and Polce's triple at the buzzer tied it at 91. FMU regained a three-point lead midway through the overtime period, but Ralat scored the Sand Shark's next six points, giving USCB a three-point advantage.

Price connected on a layup to make it 101-96 and the Sand Sharks knocked down three of the next four from the free throw line to secure the 104-101 win in OT.

The Sand Sharks continue play in the Southeast Regional Crossover tomorrow against Emory & Henry with tip-off scheduled for 1:30 p.m. in St. Augustine.
