Game Recap: Men's Basketball | | Brackin Lambert

Happy Homecoming; Fudala, USCB victorious in return to IUP

INDIANA -- It was a clean sweep of the Keystone State for head coach Ron Fudala and the USCB men's basketball team as the Sand Sharks took down the Crimson Hawks of IUP 94-84 Monday night inside the Ed Fry Arena in Indiana, Pennsylvania.

Six players scored in double-figures led by Krishen Atwal, Hudson Norton, and Alejandro Ralat who each scored 14 points apiece while Kenney Gaines and Kyle Polce added 11 and Tasso Sfanos scored 10.

Polce started off strong in his first game against his former squad, knocking down a three-pointer for the Sand Sharks first points and then followed up with a rebound and the put back to give USCB a one-point lead. An exciting half continued as there were a total of six lead changes between the two teams and the game was tied on three different occasions throughout the first 20 minutes. IUP held its largest lead at seven with the score 26-19 midway through the first half, but Beaufort answered with an 11-0 run.

Polce capped the scoring in the half for the Sand Sharks draining his third three-ball of the game as time expired putting USCB up 42-39.

The offense stayed hot as the second period began as a rare four-point opportunity occurred after Atwal was fouled after the basket was good. The Windemere, Florida native converted the free throw and then made another triple just a moment later to extend USCB's lead. Nolan Paladugu's offensive board and put back score increased the lead to double-figures with 15 minutes on the clock.

The Sand Sharks continued to out-rebound the Crimson Hawks on the offensive boards, getting multiple second chance scoring opportunities. Over the course of the next 90 seconds USCB went 4-for-4 from the field with baskets from Lukas Platauna, Kevaughn Price, and Norton. The consistent scoring continued as Beaufort missed just one field goal attempt as the clock ran down to under three minutes.

IUP tried to trim the lead but every time the Crimson Hawks scored, USCB countered with a bucket of their own and took home the 10-point victory.

The Sand Sharks long road trip continues at they'll return the court on Dec. 18 to open Peach Belt play against Augusta University.
