Sand Sharks nearly pull off historic upset over #10 North Georgia

BLUFFTON -- It was almost a historic moment for USCB men's basketball Saturday night inside the Cove as the Sand Sharks were on the cusp of knocking off #10 North Georgia, but the Night Hawks narrowly escaped Bluffton with a 84-82 victory.

Qurahn Anderson led Beaufort's offense with 18 points while Kenney Gaines posted a career-high 16 points along with five boards. Larry Bulluck and Shea Champine added 15 and 11 points respectively.

USCB led for much of the first half but the Night Hawks took the lead with the score 25-22 however, Beaufort used an 11-0 run to take an eight-point lead right back with under four to play fueled by Anderson's one-handed jam. UNG battled back to tie it up at 34 heading into the break.

The aggressiveness picked up early in the second has both teams picked up offsetting technical fouls. UNG held a four-point lead into the second media timeout of the half, but it was Anderson electrified the Frenzy with posterizing jam off the assist from Bulluck tying the game at 53. The Night Hawks kept their three-point lead, but Bulluck's and one opportunity tied it at 58. Kyle Polce banked in a triple from the wing giving USCB a 61-58 lead. Gaines followed with a pull up jumper from the paint and then drained a triple gave Beaufort a six-point advantage.

The Night Hawks were able to tie it in the final seconds and the game went into overtime - the third overtime game this season for USCB - tied at 73. Gaines hit a triple to put the Beaufort up 80-79 but UNG hit one of their own to make it 82-80 Night Hawks.
