Down four in the ninth, Andre sends Sand Sharks home with W

HARDEEVILLE -- A flare for the dramatic has been a common occurrence in Hardeeville this season, and today's home finale was no different for the Sand Sharks.

USCB was down four runs heading into the final inning but the rally started after a first pitch out. What followed were four consecutive singles and a bases loaded walk, setting the stage for Nikko Andre who pinch hit with the winning run standing on first base. After falling behind 1-2 the Murrells Inlet native laced Blake Pesante's slider into the right center field gap scoring the tying run with ease and Seth Robinson sprinted home securing the 9-8 win.

The Sand Sharks fell behind 3-0 in the third inning but Carson Weathers made it a two-run ball game with an RBI single through the hole scoring Brian Meyer who increased his all-time leading stolen base record earlier in the AB. Flager added two more runs making it 5-1, but Beaufort clawed its way back to make it 5-4 after Weather's picked up another RBI on a fielder's choice and then seniors John Leland and Meyer collected run scoring singles.

Following a three-spot in the eighth inning for the Saints, Aiden Cooper (4-1) entered in the ninth and worked a clean inning setting the stage for the fireworks in the ninth.

Starter Tucker Dove worked three innings allowing three runs on three hits and was relieved by fellow senior Josh Patterson who was brilliant over four innings.

USCB heads to the final series of the year against rival USC Aiken this weekend and the three-game set has major postseason implications. The Sand Sharks sit just one game behind the Pacers for the final spot in the eight-team Peach Belt Tournament. The series will begin Saturday at 1 p.m. at Roberto Hernandez Stadium with a doubleheader with the finale set for Sunday at 1 p.m.
