Fight to the finish; USCB splits twin bill with Pacers

AIKEN -- The final spot in the Peach Belt Conference Baseball tournament will come down to a final game on Sunday as the Sand Sharks came back and split the doubleheader with rival USC Aiken Saturday dropping the opener 13-10 and taking the nightcap 5-1 at Roberto Hernandez Stadium.

USCB jumped out to an early 3-0 lead but the Pacers scored a single run in the third before dropping a five spot in the fourth followed up with four runs in the fifth. Beaufort battled back courtesy of a Carson Weathers run scoring single and Jake Tanner scoring on a wild pitch. Aiken added three in the bottom of the seventh to make it an eight-run ball game, but the Sand Sharks scored scored five runs in the last two innings but Mack Cromer flied out to end the game.

Brandon Martin (3-5) got the nod in game two tossing a 6.2 inning gem allowing just one run on five hits with four punch outs. Brayton Wilmes worked 2.1 scoreless innings out of the pen to secure the victory. Seth Robinson's double down the left field line got the scoring started and the bottom of the order fed the top as USCB's top of the lineup, Nikko Andre, Brian Meyer, and Hunter Miller all had two hits and a run driven in.

The rivals will battle it out tomorrow at 1 p.m. for the final spot in the PBC tournament.
