USCB, Sailfish tie to end Sunshine State trip

WEST PALM BEACH -- After jumping out to an early 2-0 lead in the first seven minutes, USCB had to battle back to tie 3-3 Palm Beach Atlantic Monday afternoon after the Sailfish scored three unanswered goals to end the first half.

"A tough game against a strong opponent," said interim head coach Dan Huff. "Playing these two teams (Lynn and PBA) with only 48 hours rest is never going to be easy. But I'm very pleased with the way we played this afternoon and that we kept our composure after giving up the lead in the first half. To be able to battle back and earn a tie on the road is going to get us ready for the conference opener on Saturday."

USCB's aggressive offense struck early scoring two goals within the first seven minutes of play. Kassi Martin scored her first collegiate goal with the assist from Synne Bye-Andersen. With the assist, Bye-Andersen inched closer to the all-time assist record held by fellow countrywoman Mari Kalvtanl; she now has 30 for her career.

Izzy Amphlett scored her team-leading third goal of the year just three minutes later to move Beaufort up 2-0. But the Sailfish earned a penalty kick in the 28th minute to end the Sand Shark's goalkeeper's scoreless streak at 335 minutes. PBA knotted the game at two apiece five minutes later as Maddy Nelson beat the USCB back line and find the back of the net.

Palm Beach Atlantic would add a third goal as the half winded down, putting Beaufort behind for the first time in since the first game of the season at Southern Wesleyan. The lead however would only last for a total of nine minutes as Sophia Willis drove tied the game at three with a penalty kick goal in 46th minute.

The Sand Sharks only mustered off one more shot on goal the remainder of the match, but veteran goalkeeper Emily Worrell saved all seven shots against her in the second half.

USCB continues its road trip as it'll open Peach Belt play this weekend, traveling to Americus for a 7 p.m. kickoff against Georgia Southwestern.
