Cold second half bites Sand Sharks vs Broncos

FAYETTEVILLE -- The non-conference schedule for USCB ended Thursday night with a 85-63 loss the Fayetteville State. Kenney Gaines was the lone Sand Shark in double-figures scoring 12 points off the bench.

FSU jumped out to an early seven-point lead over the course of the opening three minutes, but it was Gaines who ended the Broncos run with USCB's first bucket. The Sand Sharks slowly chipped away at Fayetteville's lead as the period progressed making it a three-point game after Dylan Lewis drained a triple from the top of the key. 
 
The Broncos maintained a one-possession lead at the 10-minute mark, but a three-pointer and a coast-to-coast score gave FSU a seven-point advantage once again. As the half progressed Fayetteville pushed its lead to double-figures beating the Sand Sharks defensive press. A long three-pointer from the hands of Price cut FSU's lead to five with just a minute remaining to play, but a turnover that led to a basket put Beaufort down seven at the break. 
 
USCB struggled from the field in the second half shooting just 24 percent. Nolan Paladugu's made free throw with 18:46 on the clock made it a five-point game, but the Broncos followed with a 16-3 run over the next five minutes and would hold on for the 22-point victory.
 
The Sand Sharks return to the Cove for the first time since November as the home portion of its Peach Belt schedule opens against Clayton State on Saturday. Tip-off is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
