Sand Sharks Earn Road Win Over Middle Georgia State

BLUFFTON, SOUTH CAROLINA – The University of South Carolina Beaufort (USCB) soccer team traveled to Cochran, Georgia, for a Peach Belt Conference match against Middle Georgia State. The Sand Sharks scored a goal in each half to secure a 2-1 road victory, with the game-winner coming from Savanna Page.

USCB improves to 8-1-0 on the season and 3-1 in conference play, while Middle Georgia State drops to 1-3-4 overall and 0-3-1 in conference competition.

"Midweek conference games on the road are always a challenge, so it feels good that the team was able to dig deep and come home with three points" stated head coach Gary Boughton.

In the win, Sophia Willis and Savanna Page each scored a goal, with Jasiah Pack assisting on the second. Ciazia Powe started in goal, making one save in the victory.

The Sand Sharks struck first after back-to-back corner kick attempts. On the second attempt, Lauren Carmichael delivered a perfectly placed ball, which Sophia Willis headed into the back of the net for the game's opening goal her team leading sixth of the season.

Middle Georgia tied the match late in the first half after Chloe Baladi intercepted a clearance pass and fired a shot into the net with her right foot, leveling the score at 1-1.

The match remained tied at halftime. USCB led the match in shots 16-8 overall and 7-2 on goal, including nine shots in the second half.

In the second half, the Sand Sharks capitalized on a free kick opportunity. The initial ball was sent in front of the goal, where Savanna Page won possession and finished for her fourth goal of the season. Jasiah Pack earned the assist.

USCB nearly extended the lead late in the match, but Middle Georgia's goalkeeper made a save to keep it at 2-1.

Middle Georgia's final shot attempt was blocked by the Sand Sharks, who held on for the 2-1 road win over the Knights.

The Sand Sharks return to action on Saturday afternoon against Georgia College on the road, with the start time scheduled for 1:00 PM. The Sand Sharks will be back home on Wednesday October 8th with the start time at 3:00 PM.
