BIRMINGHAM, ALABAMA – The University of South Carolina Beaufort men's track and field team opened the 2025–26 indoor season at the Birmingham Indoor Icebreaker on Friday. The meet featured strong competition, including a large NCAA Division I presence. The opening indoor meet featured one new school record for the Sand Sharks. Samuel Mitchell set the triple jump school record at 14.97M.
Cameron Edwards had two top 10 finishes for the Sand Sharks in two different events with a third place finish in the triple jump and an eighth place finish in the long jump. Overall Sand Sharks had four different events with top 10 finishers.
The Sand Sharks found their greatest success in the triple jump, where two athletes placed inside the top five. Samuel Mitchell recorded a jump of 14.97m to finish second, while teammate Cameron Edwards took third with a mark of 14.79m.
In the men's 60m, USCB earned two personal bests. Bryson Shears placed 22nd overall with a PR of 7.05, and Durham Adkins set his own PR at 7.47, finishing 63rd.
Malachi Milligan secured the highest finish for USCB in the 60m hurdles, placing 21st overall with a time of 8.83.
Bryson Shears led the Sand Sharks in the 200m, finishing 11th overall with a time of 22.37. In the 300m, Ramon White paced the team with a time of 40.92, placing 37th.
Three Sand Sharks competed in the 400m, with Elijah Lewis leading the group in the event with a final time of 52.42 for 33rd place.
In the 800m, Braxton Talley recorded a strong performance, finishing 16th overall with a time of 2:04.52.
Rickson Figueroa ran a personal record in the mile, finishing 31st overall with a time of 5:23.38. The 3000m was led by Zachery Vowles, who finished 24th overall with a time of 9:11.31.
In the high jump, Jayden Rodriguez placed 25th with a top mark of 1.80m. Cameron Edwards earned a top-10 finish in the long jump, placing eighth at 6.92m.
In the pole vault, Aiden O'Neil posted one of the team's highest finishes of the day, taking fourth overall with a mark of 4.45m.
Devin Watson led USCB in the shot put with a throw of 13.06m. In the weight throw, Jason Jose finished 24th overall with a mark of 12.83m, one of three Sand Sharks competing in the event.
USCB fielded two teams in the 4x400m relay. Team A, Zachariah Sellers, Raahil Baig, Bryson Shears, and Elijah Lewis, finished 10th in 3:28.99. Team B Alie Sannoh, Malachi Milligan, Durham Adkins, and Marcus Fuller, placed 16th in 3:38.72.
The Sand Sharks return to action after the New Year on January 10 in a Division I meet at the University of South Carolina.
