BLUFFTON, SOUTH CAROLINA – The University of South Carolina Beaufort women's basketball team opened conference play with a perfect 2–0 record this past week, securing back-to-back fourth-quarter comeback victories. Taniyah Bowman played a major role in both wins and has been honored as the Peach Belt Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week.
This marks the first time in program history that the Sand Sharks have started 2–0 in Peach Belt play. USCB earned a 72–64 victory over the University of South Carolina Aiken on Wednesday evening December 3rd before sealing a victory over Lander 62–60 on Saturday December 6th.
Bowman totaled 45 points across the two games, averaging 22.5 points per contest while shooting 60.9 percent on 23 shot attempts. She also contributed eight assists (4.0 per game) and seven rebounds (3.5 per game). Defensively, Bowman excelled as well, recording nine steals, including six in the win over USCA.
In Wednesday night's game with USCA, Bowman scored a season-high 28 points on 10 made shots, adding six assists and six steals in the victory. She started the fourth-quarter comeback in which USCB outscored the Pacers 26–12. Bowman scored 15 points along with three assists and four steals in the final period to secure the 72–64 win.
During Saturday afternoon's game, Bowman posted a game-high 17 points along with three steals, two assists, and three rebounds. After trailing for most of the game, she once again sparked a fourth-quarter comeback, helping the Sand Sharks outscore Lander 24–12 in the final frame. Bowman scored 12 of the team's 24 fourth-quarter points while adding a steal, an assist, and two rebounds.
Bowman becomes the first USCB women's basketball player to earn Peach Belt Conference Player of the Week honors this season and the first since Week 5 of the 2023–24 campaign.
The Sand Sharks are home on Wednesday, December 10, for their conference home opener against Augusta at 5:30 p.m.
