Down to the wire; Sand Sharks win OT thriller over GCSU

MILLEDGEVILLE – A familiar scene occurred Wednesday night for the USCB men's basketball team. A sluggish first half had the Sand Sharks down and would need a come back to extend its win streak and the win streak is still in tact after a thrilling 91-87 overtime win versus Georgia College inside the Centennial Center.

Kenney Gaines and Nolan Paladugu each scored 19 points while Hudson Norton and Tasso Sfanos scored 15 and 12 points respectively to lead the Sand Sharks offense. As a team, Beaufort shot just 38 percent from the field but went 25-for-26 from the free throw line.

USCB's first half cold streak continued, scoring just 27 points, and going 9-for-34 from the field. The high-octane offense who lives by the three-pointer, made only three triples. The Bobcats jumped out to a lead midway through the first half after being tied at 12, GCSU went on to finish the half with 21 points to the Sand Sharks 15.

The Sand Sharks battled all the way back to knot the game at 45 and then a few possessions later the lead swapped back and forth. Georgia College recaptured a five-point lead, but Sfanos connected with a triple to tie the game at 73. GCSU held a one-point lead with just over 30 seconds, but the Bobcats airballed a long-ball attempt and USCB grabbed the loose ball with 26 seconds remaining. Head coach Ron Fudala called a timeout and Norton drove to the basket and scored. Paladugu was fouled with .4 seconds remaining and made the two from the stripe. GCSU threw up a prayer and it went in to tie the game at 77 with no time left on the clock.

Georgia College took an early lead in the overtime period, but Beaufort quickly tied the game at 85 with just over two minutes remaining.
