USCB takes bite out of Bearcats, sweep season series

BLUFFTON – Four Sand Sharks scored in double-figures and a hot start to the second half propelled USCB to a 20-point 86-66 victory over Lander Wednesday night inside the Cove.

"I'm proud of our effort, proud of our guys. Proud of our community," head coach Ron Fudala said after the victory. "That's what it's about, our players and our community."

Krishen Atwal and Alejandro Ralat each netted 14 points and Tasso Sfanos scored 12 while Dominic Eason added 10.

Lander took an early lead midway tough the first half, taking a 10-point lead with 12 minutes to play in the half. USCB started the night 0-for-7 from beyond the arc, while the Bearcats were perfect to start, going 4-for-4 from the three-point land. Eason ended the Sand Shark's woes from long-range draining his first three of the night.

Beaufort cut it down to a five-point game with 7:28 remaining and the Sand Sharks went on 13-0 run over the next five plus minutes to take an eight-point lead. The Bearcats trimmed to four points, but Sfanos connected with a jumper with under 30 seconds and Atwal's last second shot just rimmed out as time expired, and the Sand Sharks went into the break up six.

USCB was on fire to start the second half outscoring the Bearcats 21-8 to take a commanding 20-point lead. The Sand Sharks found the grove from long-range knocking down six triples from beyond the arc. Beaufort maintained its double-digit advantage throughout most of the period. With the lead at 17 the Sand Sharks began to drain the clock taking shots with under 10 seconds on the shot clock.

USCB emptied their bench with 90 seconds remaining to the roar of the crowd and claimed the sweep over Lander.

"When you invest, the skies the limit."

The Sand Sharks host Georgia Southwestern on Saturday inside the Cove with a 7:30 p.m. scheduled tipoff.
