Big offensive day leads to split vs Albany State

HARDEEVILLE -- There was not a short of offense Saturday after at the Richard Gray Sports Complex as USCB scored a total of 23 runs in a day night split with Albany State dropping the opener 15-10 and taking the night cap 13-6. 

The middle of the lineup shine in game two, combining for 11 hits and 10 runs batted in. Cooper McDaniel went 4-for-5 with four RBI and Joe Turner added three hits with three runs driven in. Jon Davis drove in three with his one his and Noah Campbell also had three hits in game two's victory. 

USCB scored two runs in the second and added four in the fourth, but the Rams clawed back to score two but the Sand Sharks broke it open with two in the fourth and five in the fifth. 

Andrew Shanks (1-1) picked up his first Sand Shark win, going five innings allowing two runs on three hits with four punch outs. 

Closing out the ball game has been tough for USCB in the early part of the season. Up 6-0 after two, Albany State slowly chipped away at the lead and eventually tied the game scoring two runs in third, fourth, and fifth innings. Beaufort recaptured the lead in the fifth and added two more in the sixth. But the Rams dropped an eight spot in the top half of the seventh.
 
The Sand Sharks scored only one more run while ASU added an insurance run in the ninth to claim the game 15-10.
 
The top of USCB's lineup combined for five of the Sand Shark's 13 hits led by Cooper McDaniel and Cade Sikoski's three hits. Nikko Andre, Luke Doty, and Jake Tanner each added two hits apiece.
 
Joe Turner got the nod on the mound and went four innings allowing four runs, two earned on four hits with five walks and five strikeouts.

USCB hosts Savannah State for a weekday match up on Tuesday. First pitch is slated for 3 p.m. in Hardeeville.
