Sand Sharks shutout in midweek contest versus Embry-Riddle

HARDEEVILLE -- The Sand Sharks' skid hit double digits on Tuesday as the team struggled to capitalize on scoring opportunities in a 12-0 loss to Embry-Riddle in eight innings at the Richard Gray Sports Complex.

USCB's offense showed signs of life, collecting seven hits, but they were unable to bring runners across the plate. Jon Davis provided the team's only extra-base hit with a double, but Beaufort couldn't deliver the key hits needed to capitalize on their baserunners. Davis was thrown out attempting to steal third in the second inning, and after a strikeout, Jake Tanner ripped a base hit to left—one that could have scored Davis had he remained at second.

Anthony Storzieri singled in the eighth, but Joe Turner's deep drive to left field was caught, sealing the shutout loss.

Andrew Shanks got the start as the opener, working a scoreless first inning. Nick Underwood (0-2) took the loss after allowing four earned runs, two walks, and one hit in just a third of an inning. USCB utilized nine different pitchers in the game, but none could slow down Embry-Riddle's offensive attack.

Embry-Riddle's pitching staff kept the Sand Sharks off balance all game, issuing no walks while striking out eight.

The quick two-game midweek series concludes tomorrow with a scheduled 2 p.m. first pitch.
