Baseball drops finale with GSW

AMERICUS -- Alex Simmons solid performance on the mound was not enough to salvage the series as the Sand Sharks were shutout 4-0 by Georgia Southwestern on Sunday afternoon. 
 
Simmons (0-3) threw 5.1 innings, allowing three runs on 10 hits. His stat line included two strikeouts and two walks. Nikko Andre, Noah Campbell, Terry Dean, Joe Turner, and Carson Weathers were the lone Sand Sharks to record hits. 
 
George Davis put GSW on the board first with a double down the left field in the second. Cory Lee singled home a run in the fifth while Daniel and David Hernandez added RBIs to cap the scoring. Jackson Raper tossed a complete game shutout allowing just the five USCB hits and recording four strikeouts. 
 
The Sand Sharks square off with Edward Waters in Jacksonville on Tuesday before resuming PBC play this weekend against Georgia College. Tuesday's game with the Tigers is scheduled for a 3 p.m. first pitch.
