MYRTLE BEACH -- The USCB track and field teams delivered standout performances at the Alan Connie Shamrock Invitational, held from March 20-22, in Myrtle Beach. Under the guidance of head coach Terica Harris, now in her second season, the Sand Sharks achieved 14 personal bests and set three new school records, underscoring the program's upward trajectory.
On the men's side, Cam Edwards made history once again, surpassing his own school record in the triple jump with an impressive mark of 14.52 meters. His continued dominance in the event highlights his steady improvement and determination. The men's 4x200-meter relay team of Q France, Cornell Harris, Zachariah Sellers, and Bryson Shears also left their mark on the record books, breaking the previous school-best time of 1:31.95 with an incredible 1:28.86 performance.
The long jump event saw more success for the Sand Sharks, as Sam Mitchell placed fourth overall with a leap of 6.89 meters. France also put in a strong showing, securing a top-10 finish with a jump of 6.68 meters. Edwards and John Davis rounded out the team's efforts in the event, finishing 12th and 31st, respectively. Meanwhile, Shears delivered another stellar performance in the 200-meter dash, finishing fourth out of 99 competitors with a personal-best time of 21.79 seconds. In distance running, Jacob Mitchell secured a top-10 finish in the 5,000 meters with a time of 15:47.88, adding another impressive result to USCB's weekend.
The women's team also put on an outstanding display, particularly in the 4x200-meter relay. The squad of De'Andra Brown, LeeAisha Ford, Maggie Olsen, and Dionna Rivers set a new school record in the event, clocking in at 1:46.09 and placing seventh overall. Their performance showcased the growing depth and speed of the Sand Sharks' sprint program.
Beaufort returns to the track next weekend at the Embry-Riddle Running Elements in Daytona Beach beginning on April 4.Â
