Baseball shutout by Lander to begin series

GREENWOOD -- USCB struggled in the series opener against the Lander Bearcats, falling 20-0 at Stephen B. Dolny Stadium to begin a PBC weekend series.

Terry Dean collected two of the Sand Sharks' five hits. Nikko Andre, Noah Campbell, and Carson Weathers each added a hit for Beaufort. Joe Turner (1-5) took the loss, allowing four runs on just two hits. The right-hander also issued six walks.

Lander scored in every inning except the third, plating two runs in both the first and second innings, one in the fourth, and exploding for 10 runs in the fifth. The Bearcats tacked on five more in the sixth.

USCB and Lander will conclude the series tomorrow with a doubleheader beginning at 2 p.m.
