Doty, Cromer, Sikoski Drive in Runs in Game Two of the Series

HARDEEVILLE, SOUTH CAROLINA  – The University of South Carolina Beaufort baseball team dropped the second game of its three-game conference series to Augusta, 7-3, on Saturday at the Richard Gray Sports Complex. Sand Sharks led 3-2 before Augusta came back with five unanswered runs to take the win 7-3.

With the win, Augusta improves to 9-5 overall and 5-0 in conference play, while USC Beaufort falls to 3-8 overall and 0-5 in conference action.

The Sand Sharks saw five different players record a hit in the contest. Luke Doty, Mack Cromer, and Cade Sikoski each drove in a run. Carson Tillotson and Broker Bailey contributed with a scoreless inning of relief apiece.

After a scoreless opening frame, Augusta struck first in the top of the second inning, capitalizing on a one-out walk with a two-run home run to take a 2-0 lead.

USCB responded in the bottom half of the inning. Jon Davis reached safely to spark the rally, and Cromer delivered an RBI double to cut the deficit in half. Sikoski followed with an RBI single to score Cromer and even the game at 2-2.

Ian Barnes kept the Jaguars off the board in the third, and the Sand Sharks took their first lead of the afternoon in the bottom of the inning. McDaniel led off with a single before Doty hit an RBI double to give USCB a 3-2 advantage.

Augusta regained control in the fourth inning. A leadoff walk set the stage for another two-run home run, putting the Jaguars back in front 4-3. The Sand Sharks limited further damage with back-to-back strikeouts.

The Jaguars extended their lead in the sixth after a lead off double and a run that scored following a defensive error. Augusta added two more insurance runs in the eighth on an RBI single by Newman and another run that crossed on a fielding error to make it 7-3.

Augusta held off the Sand Sharks the rest of the way to secure the victory and win the first two games of the series.

USCB returns to action at 1:00 p.m. for the final game of the three game series against Augusta on Sunday afternoon at the Richdard Gray Sports Complex.
