GAINESVILLE, Florida — The University of South Carolina Beaufort men's track and field team competed in the Peach Belt Conference Track & Field Championships on Monday. The Sand Sharks finished third overall in the conference standings after breaking multiple school records and producing a conference champion.
The Sand Sharks broke seven school records on the men's side, highlighted by Samuel Mitchell earning Peach Belt Conference Outstanding Field Athlete of the Year honors after breaking the school record in the long jump.
USCB was led in the weight throw by Jason Jose, who finished ninth with a final mark of 13.45m.
The Sand Sharks were especially successful in the long jump, as Mitchell won the event with a mark of 7.18m, setting a new school record. Cameron Edwards placed second overall, and the duo combined to score 18 points for USCB.
Aiden O'Neil led the charge in the pole vault, placing second overall with a mark of 4.50m. He was one of two Sand Sharks to score in the event, joined by Ethan Cockayne, who placed sixth with a mark of 4.05m.
In the shot put, Jason Jose recorded a mark of 14.63m to place third overall and set a new indoor school record.
Channing Robinson set a new school record in the high jump with a mark of 1.99m. He led a strong showing for USCB, as three Sand Sharks scored in the event. Samuel Mitchell placed fourth with a mark of 1.89m, and Jayden Rodriguez finished fifth with a mark of 1.84m.
In the triple jump, Mitchell placed fourth, scoring in his third event of the meet. He was joined by Cameron Edwards, who finished fifth with a mark of 13.89m.
Zachery Vowles set the indoor school record in the 3K, completing the race in 8:49.77 and finishing 14th overall.
In the 60-meter hurdles, the Sand Sharks had two scorers, led by Malachi Milligan, who placed sixth with a time of 8.59, followed by Alie Sannoh in eighth.
Mitchell added another point-scoring performance by placing seventh in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.01. In the 200-meter dash, Bryson Shears placed eighth overall to score for the Sand Sharks.
Jakori Herring set a new indoor school record in the 400-meter dash with a time of 48.31, placing third overall. Zachariah Sellers finished eighth with a time of 49.25.
The men's 4,000-meter distance medley relay team set a new school record, placing fourth overall with a time of 10:27.33. The team consisted of Drake Edmonds, Braxton Talley, Raahil Baig and Zachery Vowles.
To close out the conference meet, the 4x400-meter relay team placed second overall and set another school record. The team featured Zachariah Sellers, Bryson Shears, Durham Adkins and Jakori Herring.
