Campbell Finishes with Five Hits in Tuesday Game Versus Barton College

HARDEEVILLE, SOUTH CAROLINA – The University of South Carolina Beaufort baseball team hosted a non-conference matchup against Barton College on Tuesday afternoon. The Bulldogs used a quick start to take an early lead before closing out an 11–2 win over the Sand Sharks.

USCB falls to 4–17 on the season following the game.

The Sand Sharks were led offensively by Noah Campbell, who went a perfect 5-for-5 at the plate while driving in a run. Cooper McDaniel had two hits and an RBI, while Tyler Gundelfinger finished with two hits and two runs scored. Asher Western and Broker Bailey each turned in scoreless outings for the Sand Sharks on the mound.

The Bulldogs jumped on the board early after a leadoff walk and stolen base put a runner in scoring position before a two-run home run to right field gave the visitors a 2–0 lead in the first inning. The Sand Sharks looked to answer in the home half of the inning with back-to-back singles from Campbell and McDaniel before loading the bases, but the Bulldogs worked around the jam to keep the score at 2–0.

After a scoreless top of the second inning, USCB struck in the bottom half. Gundelfinger led off with a one-out single, followed by a TJ McCluney base hit to put runners in scoring position. McDaniel then lifted a sacrifice fly to score Gundelfinger for the Sand Sharks' first run, cutting the deficit to 2–1.

The teams traded scoreless frames before Barton extended its lead in the fourth inning. After a hit batter and a double set up runners on second and third, an RBI single pushed the lead to 3–1. The Bulldogs then added back-to-back sacrifice flies to extend the advantage to 5–1.

The score remained 5–1 until the sixth inning when the Bulldogs added two more runs. An RBI single followed by a sacrifice fly gave Barton a 7–1 lead after six innings.

After Barton pushed its lead to 10–1, the Sand Sharks added a run in the bottom of the seventh. Gundelfinger led off the inning with a single and later scored on an RBI single by Campbell for his second time in the game.

The Bulldogs added one more run before closing out the 11–2 victory over the Sand Sharks on Tuesday afternoon.

USCB Baseball returns home this weekend, March 13–15, for a three-game conference series against North Georgia, beginning Friday night at 6:00 p.m.
