ATLANTA, GEORGIA – The University of South Carolina Beaufort men's track and field team traveled to Atlanta, Georgia, for the Emory Spring Break Classic, closing out day one of the two-day meet on Friday evening. The Sand Sharks got off to a strong start to the outdoor season, setting two new school records.
The first came from Jakori Herring in the 400m hurdles, while Jayden Rodriguez and Channing Robinson tied another for the school record in the high jump.
In the hammer throw, Jason Jose and Jaxson Allen led the way for USCB, as Jose placed 25th overall with a mark of 39.37m, while Allen finished 26th with a mark of 39.26m.
In the javelin, the Sand Sharks were led by Anson Cagle, who recorded a top-10 finish, placing 10th with a mark of 47.63m.
Cameron Edwards led the way in the triple jump, finishing fifth overall with a mark of 14.32m. Jayden Rodriguez followed in 30th place with a mark of 12.28m.
The duo of Channing Robinson and Jayden Rodriguez tied for the new school record in the high jump with marks of 1.90m. Robinson finished fourth overall, followed by Rodriguez in sixth.
The highlight of day one was Jakori Herring's victory in the 400m hurdles, as he took first place with a time of 52.45 while setting a new school record.
In the 200 meters, the Sand Sharks were led by Bryson Shears, who placed 12th overall with a time of 21.70.
