ATLANTA, GEORGIA – The University of South Carolina Beaufort men's track & field team concluded its first outdoor meet of the season at the Emory Spring Break Classic in Atlanta, Georgia. The Sand Sharks found success with multiple school records on day two, along with a couple of national qualifying marks.
Samuel Mitchell set a new school record in the long jump, while he and Cameron Edwards each hit the national qualifying mark. Jakori Herring also set a new school record in the 400m event.
In the men's pole vault, the Sand Sharks were led by Aiden O'Neil, who placed seventh with a mark of 4.30m.
In the discus, the Sand Sharks were led by Jason Jose, who placed 17th overall with a mark of 40.20m.
The meet was highlighted by the long jump, where the Sand Sharks had two individuals place in the top five and reach qualifying marks. Samuel Mitchell won the event with a mark of 7.55m to reach the NCAA qualifying standard, while teammate Cameron Edwards finished third with a mark of 7.46m. Mitchell also set the new school record.
Jason Jose led the team in the shot put with a 10th-place finish, recording a best mark of 13.42m on Saturday.
In the 100m qualifying event, Raahil Baig led the way for the Sand Sharks with a time of 11.07.
Benton Cantrell finished 23rd overall in the 3000m, recording a time of 10:04.74.
Next, in the 110m hurdles, Malachi Milligan led the team with a time of 15.46, finishing 15th overall.
Jakori Herring led the way in the 400m, setting a new school record while placing fourth overall with a time of 47.67.
In the 800m, Braxton Talley placed 12th overall with a time of 1:58.59. In the 100m, the Sand Sharks were led by Bryson Shears, who recorded a time of 10.69.
