BLUFFTON, SOUTH CAROLINA – The University of South Carolina Beaufort men's track and field team opened the 2026 outdoor season Friday–Saturday at the Emory Spring Break Classic. Samuel Mitchell earned Peach Belt Men's Track and Field, Field Athlete of the Week honors following his performance at the meet.
Mitchell began the season with two top-five marks in the conference, hitting a national qualifying mark and winning the long jump.
He opened the season with the long jump, placing first at the Emory Spring Break Classic. Along with the win, he set a new school record in the event, ranks first in the conference, and reached the national qualifying mark early in the season.
He also competed in the 100 meters, placing 13th overall at the Emory Spring Break Classic and sits fifth in the conference with a time of 10.72 seconds.
The Sand Sharks found success in their outdoor season opener. USCB will travel to Salisbury, North Carolina, for its next meet on March 28, hosted by Livingstone College at the Livingstone Blue Bear Invitational.
