ST. AUGUSTINE, FLORIDA – The University of South Carolina Beaufort baseball team closed out a three-game series against Flagler College on Sunday afternoon. The Sand Sharks scored first, but eight unanswered runs by the Saints helped Flagler secure the 8-1 win.

USCB is now 4-16 on the season with a 0-12 conference record. The Saints improve to 15-6 with a 5-4 conference record.

The offense had hits from Cooper McDaniel and Tyler Gundelfinger, each with one. McDaniel also scored the lone run for the Sand Sharks.

Cooper McDaniel helped the Sand Sharks to an early run as a one-out single in the opening inning and a stolen base led to him scoring on a wild pitch for the early 1-0 lead.

Flagler answered back in the home half of the inning as a stolen base to third was followed by an RBI single to tie the game at 1-1. The Saints looked to add more in the second inning with a double and a walk but were unable to score as the game remained tied at 1-1.

The Saints took the lead in the fourth inning after a single and two stolen bases led to an RBI sacrifice fly and a 2-1 lead for the home team.

In the fifth inning, a one-out double came around to score on an RBI single before another double and a sacrifice fly pushed across two more runs to give Flagler a 5-1 lead through five innings of play.

The Saints added three more runs, one in the sixth and two in the seventh inning. After taking a 6-1 lead, a throwing error scored the seventh run before a sacrifice fly plated the final run to make it 8-1.

Flagler closed out the game with a double play for the final two outs.

USCB returns home for four games this upcoming week, starting with Barton College on Tuesday, March 10, before hosting North Georgia for a three-game conference series beginning March 13 at 6:00 p.m.
